NOT ALL DIRT IS THE SAME,
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO FLORIDA.
Learn about Florida’s soil
WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT FLORIDA?
Trees aren’t so different from humans. They need the right balance of nutrients to flourish — macronutrients like potassium and magnesium and micronutrients like iron, zinc, and copper.
And they’re not getting what they need from Florida’s soil.
Did you know…?
Florida soil is composed mostly of sand, which makes it porous and leads to nutrient leaching. Florida’s heavy rainfall makes it difficult for trees to retain nitrogen and phosphorus around their roots. The most vital macronutrients for plants and trees are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Florida’s soil is uniquely high in phosphorus but low in potassium. In fact, 98% of Florida soils are deficient in potassium.
Nutrient deficiencies in trees can lead to imbalances that cause browning, drying up, susceptibility to pests and fungus, and premature death.
